RESUME
L’Eglise catholique prit véritablement visage sous le Congo belge, par sa pénétration progressive dans tout le territoire. Deux éléments essentiels sont à comprendre dans ce point : la configuration territoriale ecclésiastique et l’activité missionnaire elle-même. Ici, il sied de préciser que l’arrière-fond sociopolitique et diplomatique des relations entre le Congo belge et le Saint-Siège feront découvrir que connivence, concurrence et aspiration à l’autonomie ecclésiale ne furent pas sans sous-tendre le cours des événements.

ABSTRACT
The Catholic Church really took face under the Belgian Congo, by its gradual penetration throughout the territory. Two essential elements are to be understood in this point: the ecclesiastical territorial configuration and missionary activity itself. Here, it should be noted that the socio-political and diplomatic background of relations between the Belgian Congo and the Vatican will reveal that connivance, competition and aspiration to ecclesial autonomy were not without underpinning the course of events.
