RESUME
Cet article a pour finalité de faire le point sur le contexte et l’évolution des processus d’intégration économique régionale et des tentatives de théorisation de l’intégration régionale en Afrique. Le souhait est de privilégier les théories de l’intégration appliquées aux pays en voie de développement en général, et à l’Afrique en particulier. En parcourant assez rapidement la littérature existante sur ce sujet, il se dégage que la plupart des approches théoriques d’intégration régionale sont élaborées dans le contexte occidental. Ces approches constituent le fondement du modèle européen qui guide toutes les tentatives d’intégration des autres continents. Ce sont ces théories d’intégration élaborées en Occident et appliquées à l’Europe qui constituent, pour une bonne part, le fondement théorique de l’intégration africaine.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this article is to review the context and evolution of regional economic integration processes and attempts to theorise regionalbintegration in Africa. The aim is to focus on integration theories applied to developing countries in general, and to Africa in particular. A cursory glance at the existing literature on this subject reveals that most theoretical approaches to regional integration have been developed in the Western context. These approaches form the basis of the European model that guides all attempts to integrate other continents. It is these theories of integration developed in the West and applied to Europe that constitute, to a large extent, the theoretical foundation of African integration.
